            Installation of TopiX
===============================================

You have received a file TOPIX.ZIP from a BBS,
from CompuServe or by e-mail. If you upgrade 
froma previous version of TopiX please read the
instructions at the end of this document.To 
install TopiX please follow these steps:

 - Create a new directory on your PC or on your 
   Psion. Unzip TOPIX.ZIP in this directory.
   You will end up with a lot of files, among
   them INSTALL.OPA. Now you have two options:
     - automatic installation or
     - manual installation
   both will be described in this document.
   
 - Automatic installation
   Establish a 3Link connection in server mode.
   Make sure that you can access the REM:: 
   drives if you install from a PC.
   From the system screen install INSTALL.OPA
   as a new application. Do not copy it 
   anywhere but install the actual file from 
   the unzip directory (on your remote PC drive 
   this could be e.g. REM::C:\TEMP\INSTALL.OPA).
   To find INSTALL.OPA you will have to press 
   TAB in the Application/Install dialogue and
   move around using the cursor keys an ENTER
   to go to your Unzip directory.
   Start INSTALL. You will be prompted for your
   choice for the drives to install application
   files, config files and data files. The 4th
   question ("move files?") can be answered 
   with "N" when installing from a PC. If you
   keep all the unziped files on your Psion,
   though, you should answer "Y" to avoid
   running out of diskspace.
   After everything is in place you can 
   de-install INSTALL.OPA and install your new
   copy of TopiX instead. All the files left in
   the Unzip directory may now be deleted.
   
 - While the automatic installation sounds quite 
   complex it actually is really simple. If you
   have to install everything manually, though,
   follow these steps (Attention - experts 
   only):
    - choose the installation language. 01 is
      english, 03 is german. More coming soon.
    - copy from ...   to ...

           where ## is your language code:
           01 = english / us
           03 = german

    - install \APP\TOPIX.APP as a new 
      application on the system screen. The 
      "Sample" outline should appear under the
      icon. Press <Enter> to start TopiX for the
      first time. Ready.

       Upgrading from a previous version
===============================================
When a new version of TopiX comes out the 
supporting files have most propably been changed
as well. So make sure that every .RSC and .HLP
file in \APP\TOPIX comes from the newly installed 
version.
The configuration file TOPIX.CFG has not changed
from 1.0 to 1.1. TOPIX.DEF comes with a new file 
format and will be replaced when you install
using INSTALL.OPA. Since TOPIX.DEF contains your 
registration key you will have to re-register
after the upgrade. If you lost your registration 
key I will be happy to resend it to you on 
request.
